The terms of office of both the current Captain, Steve Rose and the President, John Mawer expire at the end of this month.
Steve’s current year of captaincy has effectively been ruined by the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic during his year of office. He was, therefore, approached by the Past Captains, supported by the Board and has agreed to stand for election as Captain for a second year.
John Mawer has completed three years in office and in accordance with the Rules and Byelaws of the Club, he is retiring and John Penney, as the Senior Vice-President by date of appointment, has agreed to stand and is the Board’s nomination for election as the new President.
Under the Rules and Byelaws, nominations for Captain and President should, be submitted to a General Meeting of the membership for formal ratification prior to them taking office. The current lockdown measures that are in place however, preclude the possibility of calling a General Meeting with Members in attendance, before the new Captain and President are due to take office on 1st March and the alternative of a low key, “virtual meeting” is not considered to be a suitable vehicle for that.
The Board has agreed therefore, using discretionary powers available to it under the Articles of Association, that:
Steve Rose - Captain
John Penney - President
will take office with effect from 1st March 2021 and that these appointments are to be formally confirmed at the Annual General Meeting to be held later in the year.
Congratulations and good luck to both of them.
